Last month I had the wonderful experience of flying into California to meet with my darling Julie from the Intrepid Thread and embark on our girl’s weekend up to Portland for QUILT MARKET!! We learned a lot about instagram stories and fun new patterns and fabric lines. We also learned that we both love to travel by car and see a lot of new (or old!) places. Yep, it put the travel bug in both of us pretty hard!!!
But this post is about Quilt Market. (I’ll throw in some Portland donut pics just for fun…don’t worry!) I think it’s super interesting to come back a few weeks later and look through pictures to see what inspired me enough to take a picture!!
*Quick Aside: I go to quilt market to connect with people!! If you want to see the people side of my trip, I saved highlight stories from my time there on my Instagram. Just click on the highlight stories QuiltMarket Day 1 and day 2!!
So enough talk…let’s see some quilting inspiration, right????
Julie and I started at Sample Spree on Thursday night. Here’s a 30-second video of the cattle call…LOL!! (Sorry if you get motion sickness…I was trying to capture how many people there were.)
On Friday, we were there bright and early just after the doors opened at 9:30am.
Welcome to Quilt Market!!
We started in the Robert Kaufman booths. And I immediately spotted penguins! (My son loves penguins!)
Elizabeth Hartman creates the cutest patterns.
I always love to see Carolyn Friedlander’s mindful patterns and new collections.
These colors from Shari Butler’s newest collection grabbed me right away!!!
And she is now designing with Sweet Bee. They had so many lovely collections…I really want this apron (below):
Alison Glass’s booth was next…
This (above) is her new collection Road Trip. (You can preorder it over from Julie!!) And the pattern above that is on my bucket list to make…it’s amazing!!!
At the Me + You booth (Hoffman fabrics)…look at the quilting detail:
Crazy great, huh?
what about this Converse idea:
Yes, please!
This is one of the new Sew Kind of Wonderful patterns. Amazing! I wonder what it would look like in shabby chic fabrics…
At the Riley Blake booth, I was excited to see Amanda’s Friendship QAL quilt! I’ll be posting a LOT more about that through the summer starting tomorrow!! (Be sure and check back!) But it’s great in person!
In the Windham booth, I fell in love with this collection (which I promptly bought a fat quarter bundle in their pop-up shop):
Love it!
Julie and I loved this appliqué quilt, too…
Then we went into the Tilda booth. Sigh…Love it!
(that collar!!!)
Oh these guys!!!
Julie has few kits of these left!!! eeeeeeeeeek!!!
Also on my to-do list, the Brimfield Block!!
As I was walking through, I was keeping in mind patterns that could reflect elements of modern quilting. And I came upon this book…thinking of pixelated quilts:
But at heart, I love love love traditional shabby chic fabrics. Thus Brenda Riddle’s Amberley line. Yep, I grabbed this at Sample Spree, too!
I also picked up this fabric from Corey Yoder, her Sunnyside Up:
and I loved her vinyl project bag
idea with the piece of the panel that came with the FQ bundle:
My oldest child’s mother-in-law loves alpacas so I grabbed a pic of this project made with a new Sizzix die…I may have to grab that one!!
Another modern technique that I love is a giant quilt made with one block (modern element of design —> scale!). Here’s an example with a Moda quilt:
On day two, I started looking more at the clothing…since I’m a garment seamstress, too!!
This pattern is from Indygo Junction…
We wandered back into the folds of the Riley Blake booths and saw more inspiration:
Heidi’s projects are always so cute along with her vintage modern fabrics! love!
A fun Christmas color scheme from Minki Kim…
Amanda’s latest collection…with this cute little dress (below):
Very cute!
And this embroidery…soooooo wonderful!
Sedef’s Country Mouse…cute cute pattern from Gee’s Projects.
I loved the vibe of this wall!! and the cool butterflies, of course!
Lauren Nash’s Calico Crow has fun surprises in it…(love her labels)
Back in the Moda booth, I was wooed by Shannon’s Woodland Secrets house quilt! That’s on my to-do list now:
Those little blocks! so cute!!
Here’s a sneaky peek of Amy Sinibaldi’s new Sonata line:
Don’ t you think I need to fussy cut all of the cellos?????
Also at Art Gallery, I just loved these simple monochromatic quilts:
At Sample Spree, I also picked up a fat quarter bundle of Sarah Jane’s latest fabrics, Peter Pan. Earlier this year I read the JM Barrie original book, Peter Pan and was captivated by his writing!! So I’m figuring out how to capture that in a quilt! I may do a “Classic Book Quilt” with pattern and all!!! We’ll see. But these fabrics are adorable!!
Have you heard of Anna Maria Horner’s latest venture, Conservatory? Julie has all of the latest news in her newsletters. But here are a few pics to inspire you to find out more!!!
In the Blend booth, Cori Dantini had her latest fall fabrics. I always love her panels:
And check out these cutie dresses from Shannon fabrics (Cuddle and Double Gauze):
I loved Aurifil’s block of the month quilt with their designers of the month. That quilting…stunning!
And of course, it wouldn’t be quilt market if I didn’t try all of the long arms:
Saturday afternoon, we toured downtown Portland with my daughter and my niece. And Sunday morning, after a trip to Pip’s doughnuts, we drove back to California!!
(disclaimer: i did not eat all of those donuts! just two! I promise!!)
All in all, I was completely inspired to quilt more and to meet more people who are involved in this fun little business we call quilting! I’m really looking forward to more new ideas at Fall Market here in Houston in November!
If you have any questions about designers or fabric lines or something I’ve posted, feel free to leave a comment or email me!!
And now, it’s time to sew…which project would you sew up first?????
Blessings,
