The new year is spurring me on to finish, finish, finish. I’m ready for all of my UFOs (unfinished objects) to be done! But alas, not enough hours in the day.
But don’t think I didn’t finish something this week, because I did!! yay! I finished two things!
On Instagram, a friend posted a reading challenge called #readtheclassics2018 (go check out the hashtag!!). The challengers posted a list of authors and said we could pick any books written by those 12 authors. I’m a huge sucker for the classics. As a matter of fact, I’ve read at least two books from 8 of the 12 authors. So first, I picked all of the books I would read this year. Here’s my list:
The only two I’ve already read are Emma and The Secret Garden. I’ve pretty much read everything both authors have written, so I picked my two faves!! (actually, I just read Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility in the last 6 months, so Emma is my 3rd fave of Jane Austen’s!)
So this month, I started with Peter Pan. You have to understand that even though I love love love reading, I only read before I go to sleep. And pretty much reading puts me to sleep. It takes forever to finish a book. But this year, I’ve decided to go to bed a little earlier and read a little longer each night. In the last two and a half weeks, I’ve finished Peter Pan!
I LOVED it. I realized I’ve never read the book, never seen the whole movie or the stage play or musical (sorry, Sandy Duncan!). JM Barrie’s writing is superb. It sucked me in from the first sentence and didn’t let me go until the very end. I thought he did a great job of keeping me unbalanced…is it a dream? or make-believe? or real? Excellent reading!
On to the next book:
Just a few pages in and I already love Anne Bronte’s writing, too! Her sisters’ books are two of my very favorite books, Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights, which is why I picked Agnes Grey. I haven’t read it yet. Have you?
And lest you think I’m just sitting around reading, I finished a quilt top, too!!
Here is my finished Houston Modern Quilt Guild Mystery Quilt (2017) top:
I love it so much! I cannot wait to get it quilted and put it on my very own bed!!! I used only a fat quarter bundle of Stacy Tsu’s Farm Fun fabric from Moda, one little red fat eighth in my stash and white background fabrics. I can’t wait to show this baby off at our guild meeting tomorrow.
Because of Houston’s Ice-mageddon this past week, I got a lot of mail on Thursday. It included this fun package from my darling friends, Alison, Chen and Jessica!
I’m hoping to incorporate these colors in some of my UFOs on my list!!!
They always send the sweetest gifties to me. I will share some of my projects as I finish them using all of these goodies. And maybe I’ll share goodies, too!! yay.
Happy Friday!! Btw, go check out my Fresh Faith Friday post over on I’ll Take Jesus. It’ll encourage you!
I’m linking up with Amanda Jean at crazymomquilts.com!
Blessings,
Congrats! on your newly completed quilt top. Best of luck with the quilting!!
Thanks so much!!! I can’t wait to have it completely finished!!
